Opening thoughts about Civil RIghts
Looking at the pictures between pages 132-133 of Little Rock Central High School and Elizabeth Eckford make me think about how difficult it must have been to have been part of the Little Rock Nine. Look at the pictures on these pages. What stands out for you? Why? (Posting due @ 4:00 4-22)

For me, the thing that stands out from the pictures are that there are white people discriminating the Little Rock Nine just because of their skin color. The white people don't know what the Little Rock Nine went through for just 1 year.

ReplyDeleteIn the pictures she looks terrified but she is trying to act brave and not listen to the horrible comments. Look at her being yelled by the white women she just keeeps walking as if nothing was wrong.
ReplyDeletethe picture that stands out to me is the picture were it shows Elizabeth Eckford walkin to school and theres a mob of people screaming at her and theres a white lady giving her a dirty look...this picture stands out because its just wrong for the people being racist to the little rock nine.
ReplyDeletewhat also stands out in that picture are the soldiers that are around the mob of people (i think thier there to protect the little rock nine)....it stands out to me because its just realy strange that they have to call in some soldiers just to watch over 9 pople while thier barly walkin to school.
What really stood out for me was the picture in which Elizabeth Eckford kept walking with no immotion while the white people yelled loudly at her ear and made evil faces at her, on there dissagrement that she is going to school at an all white school and making there pressence known that they don't want her there.And yet she does not give up on herself and on her education at Little Rock Central High School.
ReplyDeleteThe photo that most describes the civil rights movements in Liitle Rock. Is where a white lady is yelling at Elizabeth Eckford.It shows her anger towars blacks and I think this is the most similar because it shows the sympathy the whites had on the black people. It also describes the look of Elizabeth Eckford.She looks like she isn't going to turn around and give up. In addition it shows how she might not be paying attention and just going on.
ReplyDeleteBased on what I see the picture thats stands out to me is the picture when Elizabeth Eckford is being brave enouth to stand up to those racist people. I believe that she did the good thing by ignoring all the racist comments about her.
ReplyDeleteI think that the picture that standed out was the picture that shows the African Americans protected by the National Guard. This showed that the Guards didn't care if African Americans went to a white school because they might think that it's okay.Also I think that it stood out was because it showed that the African Americans trusted there lives with men that could kill them in seconds.
ReplyDeleteThe picture that stood out the most for me was the one where the Little Rock Nine were being escorted by the National Guard out of the school. That stood out the most for me because the situation got so bad that the N.G had to step in to help the kids to get out and in of school.
ReplyDeleteI think that the picture that stands out to me is page 132.It stands out to me because a group of kids need soliders to be safe going to class.When today we just walk in the school not worrying about nothing.Also that people hate haveing black going to a white school that they would crowd around and yell at the teenagers for wanting a equel education.
ReplyDeleteThe picture thats stands out for me is the one that Elizabeth Ecford is walking to school with a mob behind her. Shes helpless and at the same time she being brave, but she protected by the soldiers. The white person is being racist and giving her a dirty look and the rest of them are yelling at her.
ReplyDeleteWhat stands out in the pictures is before in the school their used to be alot of soldiers. In order to protect the students. The reason why that stands out its because now their is discrimination but not as much as there was back then.Today you don't see people being escorted by soldiers.

ReplyDeletethe picture that attrative me the most was the picture of the white lady yelling at elizabeth.the picture atractive because instaed of the lady yelling at her,you could also see in the background all the people that were giving her disty looks for attending central high school.so in other words you could tell she was not wanted and people were unfair and jugdeful for the way they were treating her.

Also where the kids of little rock nine kids are going up the stairs to central high school.it stands out the most to me because of the National Guard in front of the school.

ReplyDeleteWhat the pictures show is terrified and they all have faces showing that they are frighten!They are looking at the white ppl that they are screaming at them and telling them bad stuff and that makes them feel bad but Elizabeth is triying to ignore all of the white ppl.

What stands to me from the pics is the picture were elizabeth was brave enough to face that mob and the white girl screaming at her. And I give her credit for not turning around and smacking her.I wouldnt control my self if a guy was screaming names at me.
ReplyDeleteI belive that what stands out for me in the pictures is that i look into their reactions in theirs faces and they look terrified. This stands out because in the background their is a women that looks like if she is corsing at that young lady when she hasn't done anythings wrong. this stand out because they had no reason for that women to be mad at her or yelling at her.. Those are the reasons why that image stands out for me ...

ReplyDeleteWhat sticks out the most to me is the soldiers and how those inocent teenagers had to be taken to school by the soliders.This stuck out to me because normally teenagers don't get death threats if the go to a certain school.Also normal teenagers don't get taken to school by soldiers so they don't get hurt by the mob thats always there when they get to school and when they leave school.
ReplyDeleteThese picture caught my attention because Elizabeth was brave enough.Also it caught my attention because the other lady was screaming to Elizabeth for no reason wich i think it was dumb because Elizabeth was not doing anything to the other lady .What i think of this picture is that i feel bad for Elizabeth because shes being discriminated for no reason.

This picture stands out for me because its looks really intresting the way that no one wants them there and the way that the army is standing there because they have to protect them so they wont get killed.I think that no one should go through what they went through and i know that itwould have been really rough to go to that school by the way that the people in the stairs look like and because they have to have guards.
ReplyDeleteThe picture that mostly stands out for me is the picture where Elizabeth Eckford is walking through an angry mob without being frightened even when the white people are screaming at her. All the white people are angry at her and give Elizabeth dirty looks. I feel bad for her because she had never done anything to the white people. She was very brave to not look discouraged. There was no reason for anyone to be yellling at her and calling her names.
ReplyDeleteThe picture that stands out for me is the picture where Elizabeth Eckford is being brave in the face of the mob where there is white people yelling at her and looking at her in mean faces. I think that's the picture that stands out for me because she is just walking and ignoring the thinks that the white people are saying. I think what she's doing is very brave because if i was her I would of start running or telling them bad things to them.
ReplyDeleteWhat stands out for me is how friends is an important factor in the pictures where the friends are together with Elizabeth Eckford. Because without friends your not as confident taking the next step in the integration.
ReplyDeleteThe thing that stands out for me is the picture where Elizabeth Eckford is close to the mob. She could of been killed because nobody wants her there.She was brave enough. I think that takes alot of courage beacause everybody was screaming at her.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the picture that stood out the most was when Elizabeth Eckford was walking to Central High School. But, she wasn't frightened by the mob. She was being brave in the face of the mob. How it shows that she is being brave is by her expression. She's just walking minding her own and ignoring the whole commotion behind her. I feel bad for her because the white woman that is in the mob is yelling things at Elizabeth. Elizabeth didn't do anything to do her or them.
ReplyDeleteWhat stands out to me the most would be when Elizabeth in front of the mob ignoring what the mob is saying.If I was her I would be scared,I would regret signing that paper.It stands out because one lady is standing behinde her and yelling and Elizabeth is just walking minding her own business.Maybe Elizabeth was scared but just didnt want to show it.The whtie poeple just dont want to see that the the colored poeple are just like thm but with a different skin color.
ReplyDeleteWhat really stands out for me is that in many pictures there seem to be soldiers watching the kids. It seems like the school board doesn't trust them. It's like their trying to protect the white kids from the black kids and that doesn't seem right to me.
ReplyDeleteThe picture that amazed me the most, was when Elizabeth was walking and in the back of her was an angry mob just looking at her with evil faces, screaming insults at her. But the thing that really got my attention was that in that angry mob, there was a white girl screaming insults at her, and Elizabeth in that picture showed nothing but a strong face. She didnt look sad or anything. She kept a strong face, even when deep down she felt helpless, and that really amazed me the most that insted of crying and looking down, she didnt! She looked straight and showed no sadness.
ReplyDeleteWhat stands out for me is when the girls is yelling at Elizabeth.The reason why that stands out for me is because its wierd that a white girls is yelling at a black girl just because of her race. The wierd thing is that the Elizabeth didnt even do any thing.
ReplyDeleteWHAT STANDS OUT TO ME IS THE PICTURE WHERE THE MEN OF AIRBORNE 11 ARE PROTECTING THE BLACK CHILDREN IT STANDS OUT FOR ME BECAUSE THE GUARDS ARE THERE TO PROTECT THE BLACK AFRICAN AMERICAN KIDS SO THEY WOULDN'T GET ATTACKED AND USUALLY U DONT SEE SOLDIERS PROTECTING RANDOM KIDS.
ReplyDeleteThe picture that stands out for me the most is the picture when all the white people followed one of her friends Elizabeth Eckford yelling at her and she just walked like nothing happened she was being very brave in not listening to them and keep on going like nothing happened. she stand out even thou everyone disliked her, and yelled cruel things to her, and looked at her like she was from another planet, they discriminated her,followed her around and maybe they even thrue things at her but, she went on and i tought she was a very strong person for that.

ReplyDeleteAfter veiwing the all the pictures the one that stood out the most was the one of the soldiers gaurding the house were the little rock nine met. It amazes me that they had to be protected by armed soldiers. I guess that the this seems so strange because in modern America racism is not that public.
ReplyDeleteThe picture that really got my mind set on was the one about Elizabeth Eckford!. She was being mature about what was going on in back of her. Some White girl was in back of her screaming her lungs out.To me i think i would have turned around and start yelling back at the girl! I guess the girl was mad at Elizabeth for maybe being black, but at the same time i was say that Elizabeth did the right thing by just walking away from the problem.
ReplyDeleteThe picture that stands out the most would have to be the picture where the nine students that would go to Central High School are together. The picture demonstrates companionship and that each one cares for one another. It seems as though the students are a family rather than just friends. By looking at what they are doing, I think that they are very intellegent students that seem to share a similar goal. They all want to be able to survive and live in a world where there is no discrimination against anyone because of their race. I also see them helping each other out with their studies, which shows that they care for one another.
ReplyDeleteThe picture that really impressed me was the foto where Elizabeth Eckford was on her way to Little Rock's Central High School.Although they say there was a huge amout of security, there were still people yelling and screaming at them.The girl at the back of Elizabeth seems she is furious by her facial expression.

ReplyDeleteThe picture that graves my attention is when white teenagers in Little Rock’s Central High surround Elizabeth Ecford. One white female teen is furious by seeing Elizabeth going to enter to the high school.

The picture that stood out for me was the one that shows them being escorted from their home to Little Rock Central High School. It stood out for me the most because soldiers escorted them. the soldiers protected them from any attacks. If soldiers protected them it's a preety big deal, especially if it's from their home to the school. They had to take desperate measures to keep them safe. I think .When they arrive at the school they are escorted into the school.

ReplyDeleteThe picture that stands out for me is the picture with the girls and boys in a room studing. This picture stands out the most for me because the girls know that they are mostly risking their life by just going to the school, but that did not stop them from studing and trying to be successful. The blacks are trying so hard to have a good future and it looks like they are enjoying it. This picture just tells me that these people are trying to have a good future and that they care about their life and not about what othere people think about them.Whites back then were cruel and selfish but its what "Goes around comes back aroun". God is the only one that should criticize people the way he wants.
ReplyDeleteThe picture that stands out to me the most is the one where the students areoutside of the Little Rock high school and the students are being guarded by the soldiers.It stands out because you woyuld think that scince most white people hated blacks they wouldn't be protected by anyone at all. But I like that picture beecause it shows that even though they were hated .they were still protected.

In this picture Melba is with a another guy coming out of Central High school and they are surronded bty guards because everyone was adfraid that they were going to get killed.From this picture i can tell that it must have been really hard to go to that high school.
ReplyDeleteFrom my view point what i think about the civil rights is that all that people needed was intelejence to be succesful in having those civil rights. I also was impresed that he never thought of getting into a fight. Also that he still gets racis people and Dr. Roberts explained how peole had ofoul thoughts about him and that he would never even ge in an fight because he knew it would hurt him. He explained how tha whites wouldn't even give them a chance to show how good they were. He said that they were called the whites citizens council were the whites people who were trying to kill them. He also told us how one day he sat on a counter to order lunch or dinner and the told him to get out and so he did because he knew he was on an unsafe place. He mostly talked about how the people were being mistreated. Also that he said that he really liked school and one day he saw a poster that said no color people and he was surpriced and sad because he thought he was never going to school again."Today is the first time in my life I felt equal to white people."(Beals pg58). This quote is important because shes saying that she felt superior because she was going to the school. This is important because after them having this thooughts they were all washed away when the 9 whent to the school and had to go quikly because the mob was chasing them. This tells me that the blacks accualy thought that the whites had the powere even kids like her and the 9 so they know that they had to stay out of their way.

The people were scared because they thought that they would be in danger because she was fighting for her rights and they thought that people would ruind it. Melba is sad because she thought that since she was old she would be able to do most of the things a regular person could do like date and go out to the movies. She can't do that because she is danger that any one could kill her because she attends to the school. Melba is sad because when she planed her party and only her boyfriend and anothere friend came to her party. Melba is sad because since she is famous because she goes to the school people are afraid to be with her because from trying to kill her they might hit the othere person. This are my thoughts."Integration has stolen my sixteenth birthday"(Beals 147).
ReplyDeleteWhen melba said that"integration had stolen my sixteenth birthday",she means that not even on a special day like on her birthday she can't celebrate her party with her friends. One on her best friend said,"Melma,the true is we're all afraid to come to your house"(Beals 145).Her friends were scared to go to her best friend's birthday party. If i was her i would change my mind of intergration because she can't even concentrate on her studies because she's just thinking of what are they going to do to her now.
