At the end of chapter four, Grandma India reminds Melba that "God's warriors don't cry"(Beals 44). Think about this quote and the discussion that we had in class. What does the quote mean? What did the discussion that Melba and Grandma India have while Melba was crying show us about their relationship? Be detailed in your response; I expect one well-supported paragraph. The quote "God's warriors don't cry" means like god's people shouldn't cry because if they cry it means they don't have faith in god.
ReplyDeleteAlso, what it shows about their relationship is that they are like more than just a family member. They are close friends and it really shows how much they each care about each other.
According to Beals,"Cause they trust that he's always by their side"(Warriors don't cry44). This means that they shouldn't cry because god is with them everywhere of everytime of every day.

The qoute on "GODS WARRIORS DONT CRY" is saying that that they dont fight back even if their getting torchered,teased,ior harrased by the white people. They fight by going on marches and on riots so they could get what they want by peace and no violence.

The quote means that a strong girl like her that believes in God shouldn't cry because if she keeps on doing the right thing, something good would come out of it so there is no use in crying because it will not solve anything. Melba and Grandma India's relationship is very strong because even if they fight, they still solve their problem very fast. If they weren't family, they will still act like family to each other because they have a very special bond.

The "war" Im talking about is the war with racism. The disscusion that Grandma India had with Melba had showed that grandma India was hard and strict on Melba but she ment well and she loved Melba alot and Melba knew that. ReplyDeleteThe quote that Grandma India told Melba about warriors do not cry is almost the same as the poem we read yesterday. The poem was called "We Wear The Mask". The same advice that Grandma India gave to Melba is the same as the poem. When people are suffering they hide their emotions because that way they don't show their suffering. The relationship between Grandma India and Melba have a very close connection because in the story Melba said "The anger in her voice hurt my feelings, but her warm hand patted my arm to reassure me of her love"(Beals 45). This shows that even though Grandma India is angry she still cares about how Melba feels and doesn't want to see her suffer.

The relashionship between Melba And Grandma India is very strong and they care about each other very much even though Melba got a little hurt as her grandma was in a way screaming at her but at the same time she felt confort that her Grandma is always there when she needs her.Through ups and downs.

By the discussion of Grandma and Melba, it shows that grandma really cares about Melba. Grandma tells Melba to be strong and not cry.
ReplyDeleteBased on what I read and on what we discussed the quote means to me that she should not cry because you are being pick on or harass. Grandma India was trying to tell her that to be strong and to not let yourself we are people that deserve the same and equally rights has everyone. From what I read it shows that Grandma India and Melba have a very strong bond between each other. Also Grandma India was trying to convince her to think that we are worriors and were strong we could racial slurs why because we are someone who believes in God and we know that he will do something to make things better.

People see these warriors and expect them to be courageous and not cry. Since Grandma India sees Melba as such, she must act as such. I know that Grandma India's relationship with Melba is very strong because Grandma India not only consoles her, but gives her advice as how god wants her to act. In chapter 4, Grandma India tells Melba," the women of this family don't break down in the face of trouble...we ship trouble right on out" (Beals 44). This quote supports my conclusion that Melba's family is full of strong, courageous women, and so it is understandable that Melba's grandmother tells her to be strong like her and her mother.

Melba said she would not cry anymore and follow Grandma Indias advice. But also said that she would cry only when she wasent around. So it could have a little problem. ReplyDeleteMelba wishes to die and she goes to ask her grandma for advice(Beals 160). Her Grandma's advice was that the sooner she would get to it the happier she will get the segregationist."Melba Pattio died by her own hand because she was afraid of facing God's assignment for her" (Beals 160). This quote is explaining how her Gradma is kind of making Melba mad because she wants to kill herself. From my view point What her Grandma responded was a good explanation. This is because by making her mad she will see how the world would talk about her if she would die. Her Grandma just wants her to see that if she gives up everyone would just say more mean things about her. This is a good way to respond because is like making someone see that if they die everything will fall down and it will just become a bigger problem for everyone that was working with them and trying to follow their steps. This will get the persons think that they won't take this kind of things and they would think to themselves that they would finish so that way the people would notice tham more and get othere people to follow her steps.
ReplyDeleteIn chapter 14 grandma respond" good idea," after what Melba said that she wanted to die(Beals 160). I think that her granma is being so sarcastic because since her grandaughter feels sad then she's like saying whatever if she wants to die than go ahead. Gradma then tries to talk to Melba about what is she going to say to God about it.
