"God's Warriors Don't Cry"- Extra Credit

At the end of chapter four, Grandma India reminds Melba that "God's warriors don't cry"(Beals 44). Think about this quote and the discussion that we had in class. What does the quote mean? What did the discussion that Melba and Grandma India have while Melba was crying show us about their relationship? Be detailed in your response; I expect one well-supported paragraph. Use at least one direct quote in your response from Warriors Don't Cry.

  1. I belive that the qoute means that if you big now and so you shouldnt cry. I think the relationship between Grandma India and Melba is that they are really close. The reason I belive that is because they mostly talk and do things together such as going to the wrestling matches. I also believe that this means that Grandma India is more like a mother than the real mother....

I think the quote "God's warriors don't cry" means that Melba is a warrior. When she decided to sign up for Central High.& Warriors don't cry.Grandma India is trying to say that Melba has to be strong and not shed any tears."God's warriors don't cry, 'cause they trust that he's always by their side" Grandma India quoted.(Beals 44).I believe Grandma India speaks the truth to her grandchild.Melba needs to learn how to hold her tears back & not cry in front of the other warriors.

  3. I think the quote "Gods warriors don't cry" means that Melba is fighting for everyone of her color and thats why she is a gods warrior. She is making a change and since god sees everyone equally Melba and the other 8 students are making the whole world see that too. When Grandma India says "The women of this family don't break down in the face of trouble" show us about their relationship because grandma lets Melba know that she shouldnt let anything put her down just like her and Melbas mother have been through a lot but they don't give up or start crying because they think they can't deal with it anymore. It also shows how united they are and how they will stand by eachothers side all the time because they only have eachother. And they are family and that's the most important thing you need to keep going.

  6. Will I think when the grandma said that “God's warriors don't cry" I think she meant by like saying that. Warriors don’t cry that believe in god etc. The other thing I think she was trying to say is that all the blacks are warriors because they go through so much and they are steel alive and proud to be who they are etc. The other thing is that the theme is warriors don’t cry and that is what the book title is. I think Melba’s relationship with her grandma is really good because they are talking like how they are warriors and how strong they are. You only feel good talking about that with someone u really care about etc. I think the quote means that if u really cares on what u believe in go for it and don’t cry about it through etc. The other thing is that if Melba was a warrior she won’t care on what people say and just keep trying to prove her point. And the other thing is don’t cry if it doesn’t go your way just keep reaching it until u finally get it etc. those are the things I think the quote means and how there relationships works etc.

I think when they say Gods Warriors don't cry means that there there warriors because they fighting to get in to a school were they aren't accapeted. & they arent suppose to cry because if they show fear the white people might think there no strong so there going to keep on calling them names and saying racial comments.
Melba and grandma India have a close relationship because the grandman tells her not to give up and to keep fighting

  8. I think those words means that once your gods warrior you wount give up or cry. Its like saying you have faith and you will bee stoung when time gets hard. Like Melba is going truh alout right now, being in a white school & she needs to stay stroung, in the book theres alout of quotes saying the same thing about god being there and more.

"God's warriors dont cry" means that dont give keep on going no matter what the consequences are, it also relates with the title. Examples from the the story are that when Melba and her mom go to the school even though there are white people waiting to not let them in the school. Another example is that when the white people wer chasing after melba and her mom but they didnt give up even though their legs were aching and trembling.

I think this quote means to me that she wants melba to be brave. Also she wants melba to think like a worrior and to overcome all the obstecls that are going to present in the future , all this is going to happen beacuse melba chose to write her self up to Centrel High. when melba signed u to go to Central High she didnt think that she would be discrimnated against but , she just wanted to go to the white school.

  11. The quote means: Be tought, even when you think things will not change. Grandma India says "God's Warriors Don't Cry" because she's telling Melba that she can't just break down when things get hard. She's talling Melba that if she wants to intergrate Central High then she cannot show weakness, she can only show strength. The discussion Grandma India and Melba had shows that their relationship is that they are very close.

  12. My research topic is about Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks was known as a Civil Rights Leader because she refused to do something for a white person. She was riding the bus, when the bus driver told her to get up and give up her seat for the white person because there was no more seats at the front of the bus. She refused and she was arrested, but later one of her lawyers paid her fee and she was liberated. The up stander and the victim was Rosa Parks, for refusing to give up her seat to a white person. The bystanders were the people sitting in the bus watching the commotion happen. Another bystander is the white person that had no seat. He could have just stayed standing up, rather than Rosa Parks giving up her seat for him. The perpetrator was the bus driver that wanted Rosa Parks to get up and give her seat to a white person. He didn’t want a white person to be standing up for a little while, so instead he wanted Rosa Parks arrested for not giving up her seat.

  13. i think that this quote is very inportant becouse her grandma is telling melba not to give up.it also shows how the grandma cares about Melba and still melba is brave to be going to the white school.

  14. the quote means that she should be strong and not give up. bc if she gives up its like giving the white poeple more power for slowly letting them give up bc they treat them wrong. the discussion shows us that crying dosent solve anything that taking action gives us power. if we want sumting we have to take a stand and not let others take the dicishons for us were all human beings we deserve the same rispect.

I think the quote "God's warriors don't cry means many things. For one thing I think that Grandma India meant that God is your God so you shouldn't have to cry because, he'll take care of everything. This shows for one thing Grandma India's trying to make Melba feel better about the whole situation. Melba's the reason all the protests are going on around the school so after what she saw of course she's going to feel bad. If I were Melba I would think the whole thing was my fault for wanting to go to integrated schools. This quote just shows Grandma India has full faith in God and Melba that they will be integration. She believes thats why warriors don't cry because, if you have faith then there isn't a thing in the world you should worry about that could possible hurt you.

  18. the quote "gods warriors dont cry" means that you must belive and show no fear because if you trust your soul to god it means you have fate and wont show fear because you know and trust that god will protect you.the disscusion melba and her grandma india had shows that they are not only grand daughter and grandma but they hold a relationship of best friend. this shows t hat gradma india just wants to protect melba and wishes for her safety.
likw when grandma india says "you had a good cry girl".this shows that she knows and understands how melba feels because she gave her time to be and let out all that frustration and sadness.

  19. I think the quote "God's warriors don't cry", means that Melba is always going to be able to count on god and she has to be a warrior if she wants to become what she dreamed for. I think Melba and grandma Indias relationship is like if they were friends because everytime Melba has a trouble her grandmother always has her back. ":Now read the Twenty-third of Psalm and don`t ever let me see you behave this way".I think this qoute that grandma India says to Melba really helps Melba cheer up and reffer back to God and know that he will always protect her.

  20. This quote means that the gods creator of humans are tough and never crys on the trouble situation. the relationshi[ that they have is that there are really clos that there nobody that will break them apart because that there love is strong as a grandma and granddaughter.

  21. In my opinion i think the quote,"God's warrior dont cry"(Beals 44)means that we are all God's children and that we should never give up on something.By saying that to Melba she was saying basically to not give up.TO have faith in there people because there very close to having what they want.

  22. The quote means that she is a warrior at Central High and that she cant quiet no matter. what she can over some all ods. The conversation they had showed that they are reakky close with each other that her gramma wants the best for her. Gramma india is trying to tell her that crying doesnt slove anything it just makes things worst that the tears that she shreads out isnt going to wash the pain away.

  23. From my viewpoint it means that Melba's grandma thinks melba is a warrior and she need to show the whites that she is brave and strong and that she has the right to go to Central High. Her grandma wants her not to cry in front of white people because that will show that shes week and since she is a warrior she needs to be strong when she integrates Central High. The relationship between melba and her grandma shows that they are very connected and they trust and each other. It also shows how her grandma gives advice to malba that proves that they have a strong relationship.

  24. I think that in this quote Grandma India is saying that maybe things are bad now. That she shouldn't be sad because god is on her side. That she is one of gods fighters and that after the war (She finally gets into Central High without anymore problems). Then things will be good for her and she won’t feel sad any longer. I think that the discussion that Melba and Grandma India had made Melba feel better. That sooner or later things will get better for Melba in school. Melba then had written in her diary that if god wanted her to go to that school that she was putting all her faith in him. That if that was his wish that she hopes it will be done.

by Melba crying in front of her grandma it shows how she feels comfortable around her. I think this quote shows the motivation that Grandma has and has for Melba.it also shows their faith in god even in tough times. in some of the holocaust books they lost faith in god and gave up but since Grandma has a lot of faith she thinks everything will be fine. Grandma wanted to give Melba faith because she knew integration in Little Rock started with Melba and her friends. She knew Melba couldn't get scared and lose faith because "Gods warriors don't cry".

I think this qoute is a about bravery because. grandma India told Malba that god's warriors dont cry. She also said that god's worriors dont ever give up. What I think this qoute means is about never giving up or dont let your self give to someone always stand up and go forward with your life.Dont give up or cry.

  29. I think that her grandma told her that worriors
don't cry because thats a sign of weakness. melba and her grandma had a good relationship. I know cause the way she talks to her an she gaved her confidece. everytime that melba wanted to talk bout something she always relies on her grandma.

  30. I think that what the quote is saying or what it means is that no matter where she is or anyone is god will always be with you. Also i feel that it means that she will feel protect and will always be protected by god. Grandma india and melbas relationship is based on her carrying for her and loving her. Just by havin hope and givin her some good advice for her to feel beter and not hurt. Also to make her feel not left out. I feel that their relationship is strong and helps melba understand more on whats really happening around them. The relationship is strong because whenever melba does somthing wrong grandma india supports her.

  31. The quote means that crying doesnt solve anything that she has to act with courage and with God's help, we ship trouble right and out. Their relationship show that Grandma India is acting strong towards Melba so she can stop crying and be stronger about herself.. shes also really tough on Melba. Maybe grandma india wants melba to be strong and to not let anything bring her down to crying. Towards the conversation they had grandma india was showing anger towards melba. and that hurted melba's feelings even more.

  32. What i think that the quote means is that people that are fighting for what they want don't cry. In the book Warriors Don't Cry the nine kids are going to an all white school. The white people don't want them there. But even though the white people call them names and try to hit them or do something they still try not to pay attention and go to the school. I think what showed us about their relationship is that her grandmother believes in her that they are fighters that if you fight for what you want you get it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. From my perspective I believe that "Warriors Don't Cry" means that Melba was a warrior and for her never to cry because warriors never show their enemies their weakness by Melba crying it could make the white people think they won and thats not what Melba wants. When people fight for causes they don't cry because they are so dedicated that they don't let anything to get to them. I could connect to this because this girl I know goes to an all black school and she is the only mexican. The black people looked at her like the white people did to Melba(not welcomed). She came to me crying and I told her not to let them get to her because people take tears as a victory and did she really want them to think that. So the next day she took what ihad told her into action and she didn't let them get to her and ever since then she goes to school like nothing ever happened becuase she held her head up high.

  34. This quote means that no matter what happens in life or to you warriors should never cry. Or even give up on their goal. The dissicusion between Melba and Grandma India had it shows how strong their relationship is, because Grandma India always supports her whether its good or bad. Grandma India also shows lots of support to her by giving her good advice. Grandma India gives her the idea and lets her know that everyone always make mistakes in life. She gives her support by telling her that god will always love and care for her no matter what. She will always have to be strong no matter what.

i think the quote means that u made the dicision of joining central high. so u shouldnt be crying because u are blessed. and knw u have to do ur best because u are gods warrior and they dont cry , chin up. stand staight and get ready to head into the battle feild .by battle feild i mean central high because it is melba's fault for making the dicision

Based on Warriors Don’t Cry, I strongly believe that “God’s warriors don’t cry”, really means that God’s sons and daughters don’t cry when they know that they are fighting back the pain and sadness. The warriors’ refers to God’s daughters and sons. And the whole,” God’s warriors don’t cry”, refers that when your trying and fighting off the pain and sadness you’re a warrior. Therefore if you’re a warrior you don’t cry no matter what because you have God’s help. Grandma,” cause they trust that he’s (G-d) always by their side. This quote shows that God’s warriors or God’s daughters and sons don’t cry because they know God is always their for them and by their side, protecting them. Therefore when you’re fighting off the pain and you believe in God, there should be no problem of crying. I also believe that Melba’s and Grandma India’s discussion really showed us that their relationship is all about love. When I say it’s all about love I’m referring that the relationship can be strict, sad, mad, angry, etc...But the love of the relationship will always stay the same. Therefore I can finally conclude that everything coming from Grandma India’s mouth was the best advice Melba had when she was sad and lonely. All the quotes and all about love relationship helped Melba become what she is right now. Very strong American women.

From my viewpoint this book "warriors dont cry" is that “God’s warriors don’t cry” means a lot. It means like GOD sons fight and he lets them because he knows there is nothing wrong.” God warriors don’t cry” meaning how people could defend themselves showing others like the whites that there wrong. Whites knowing that there ancestors were not Americans. “God’s warriors don’t cry” is something saying fight in non-violent to demonstrate that they don’t need violent to solve there problem.
